Wednesday, 30 November 2011, Residents' Meeting

  3. Minutes of previous meeting, 20111116, approved.
  4. Old business:
    • Matters arising from minutes: nothing in particular noted.
    • Review to do list:
      • Cancelled "update brochure" task for Jan.
      • Noted that Ron is to draft a memorandum of understanding regarding work and support on the market garden and the commercial propagation greenhouse, which he said must be done before he could submit a budget for those two profit centres.
      • Rudy volunteered two new tasks:
        [x] Take down destroyed hoop house in East Field. (Rudy Siegers)
        [x] Build a simple pallet compost bin in the East Field, and put the greenery from the destroyed hoop house into it. (Rudy Siegers)
    • Review calendar:
      • Dave Friend arriving Thursday through Sunday.
      • Shirley Pucci arriving Monday for two weeks.
    • Project updates:
      1. emergency power (Jan) Need to spend several hundred dollars on 150 feet of 10/3 stranded, rubberized cable. Rudy will watch for sources.
      2. commercial propagation greenhouse (Ron) Florian has notched gable and divider lumber for framing. Can perhaps get framing up with Dave's help in the next week.
      3. yellow house suite (Jan) no change
      4. water system (Jan) no change
      5. firewood (Jan) no change, we may need to buy some
      6. Permaculture design course 2012 (Jan) no change
  5. New business:
    1. Report on Victoria food freedom demonstration last Wednesday --Jan Steinman
      Was a great success. About 85 people. Four MLAs came and pledged support for raw milk availability via herd-share operations, including opposition critics for Health and Agriculture, representing "caucus," or the entire NDP legislators. Two VIHA agents videoed Jan and Carol milking Shakti and sharing the milk with an EcoReality Class D Investment Shareholder.
    2. Request that all residents sign standard BC Residential Tennancy Agreements (RTA), and that the yellow house and white house residents begin paying rent of $1,100 and $750, plus insurance, taxes, and utilities, respectively, which is 1/2 of the market rental rate. In addition, the white house residents are to pay $350 per month toward back taxes and insurance until such are completely paid. --Jan Steinman 18:31, 28 November 2011 (PST)
      • AGREED: all residents will sign standard BC Residential Tennancy Agreements (RTA), as linked below. Rudy's rent of $200 for his trailer space remains unchanged. Carol and Jan (yellow house) will begin paying rent of $1,100 per month. Ron (white house) will begin paying rent of $750 per month, plus $350 per month toward his debt on unpaid taxes and insurance. Each house is also responsible for insurance, taxes, and utilities.

  6. Review arrivals/departures, guests and apprentices: done during the calendar review, above.
  7. Farm meeting: Rudy to clean up destroyed hoop house as noted above and to compost the stuff that was in it. Jan to continue working on big greenhouse.
  8. Plans for the week: goat feeders, garage clean-up, fixing tractor and Vanagon fuel problems, cheese and ice crem.
