Need

To keep water flowing to our houses and crops.

Description

This project is used for billing activity concerning maintaining EcoReality's water system. As an ongoing project, it should not be used for new capital water projects.

Status

ongoing

  • May 2011, our cistern imploded for unknown reasons, causing the float valve to stick open, causing the cistern to drain without replenishment from the well pump, causing both the irrigation and domestic water systems pumps to fail. This resulted in much wailing and gnashing of teeth, and a temporary solution while we looked for ways of replacing the collapsed cistern.
  • September 2011, we procured a replacement cistern, but did not have the labour available for installation.
  • January 2012, exposed pipes froze, once again causing the cistern to empty, possibly frying three pumps.
  • April 2012, direct-plumbed the submerged well pump to the house pressure tank, taking the cistern out of the system completely. Elbowed two of the cistern pipes up vertically and capped them for future use to feed a separate irrigation reservoir. All domestic water plumbing is now inside the pump house.
Domestic water system is now stable and complete.

Timeline, schedule, or end date

Plan

  1. Stabilize the domestic water system. DONE
  2. Establish a hard-line siphon from the reservoir to the East Field irrigation system.
  3. Dig up and install a 4" "T" where the field irrigation system hits the NE corner of the greenhouse.
  4. Run a 1" mainline through the greenhouse, with valved branches for each table in the prop room and other valved outlets in the other rooms.
  5. Run 1" mainline around the East Field, with valved dripline for the beds.
  6. Establish ponds and contour swales in the East Field, for passive underground irrigation of adjacent downslope permanent beds.
