Need

Install and make operational the Sharp Road processor at the Fulford site.

Description

Biodiesel production had become almost routine at Sharp Road. We produced and distributed a couple thousand litres. However, there is not a suitable location nor infrastructure at Fulford for setting up and running the processor. This project identifies the needs for resuming production installs the necessary infrastructure, and restores the processor and associated facilities to a production-ready state.

Status

  • 2010-09-27: With a new funder and imminent financing of the balance, this project has be restored to active status.

Goal or deliverable

Install infrastructure necessary to resuming biodiesel production.

Timeline, schedule, or end date

time-related aspects of the project, which may include intermediate deadlines, dependencies, etc

Plan

  1. Move the processor and associated equipment to Fulford.
    Done!
  2. Locate a suitable location.
Temporarily, in the east end of the barn.
    Long-term: a new building or lean-to.
  3. Assess needs of that location:
    1. Electrical: 30A 220V circuit
      Done!
    2. Water
  4. Install needed infrastructure.
  5. Assess needed improvements:
    1. Add a wash processor
    2. Add methanol recovery
    3. Assess glycerol processing needs
  6. Set up invisible structures
    1. Co-op ownership, rental, or other?
    2. Pricing, distribution policies, reward systems.
  7. Re-process materials on-hand as needed
    1. Wash soapy fuel on-hand
    2. Process and use 600 litres of glycerol
  8. Commence biodiesel production and distribution operations
