Facilitator: Shannon Cowan

When: 9:30 am - 12:30 pm (Please note childcare goes to 12:45pm and lunch will begin @ 12:45pm in white house)

Topic: Personal and group learning spurred by departure of members

Purpose: To elicit a) the "nut" or deepest concerns/feelings and b) the possible new directions that arise in each member (and in the group as a whole) as a result of EcoReality's current situation, following from Mark and Penny's letter.

Preparation: Please read the letter that was read aloud to EcoReality at the June Member's Meeting, and which was emailed by Susie Anne to the group on July 2 from Mark and Penny. Please reflect on your feelings about the feedback that was provided to EcoReality by Mark and Penny in that letter. Suggestion: you may wish to make notes about your feelings and ideas and share them with one other person for feedback prior to sharing them in this meeting (can be an EcoReality community member, or other). This helps each one of us to come together with clear ears for listening, already having worked through our own emotions and thoughts and not needing to discover them in the space of this meeting. It should aid us to develop true group dialogue, to listen for the voice of the group on what happened, what we learned and what actions are needed.

Format: Agenda:

  • 9:30 Intro: Ground rules and setting the space – Shannon
  • 9:40 Opening Ceremony: Greeting one another fully
  • 9:50 – 10: 45 – Dynamic dialogue with reflective listening and summarizing.
    • Focus Question:
      • What is the “nut” that needs cracking for EcoReality to thrive, not merely survive, into the future?
  • 10:45-11:00 – Break
  • 11:00-12:00 – Dynamic dialogue with reflective listening and summarizing
  • 12:00-12:20 – What’s Next section.
  • 12:20-12:30 – Roses and Thorns Feedback and Gratitude.

Note: Shannon has had feedback from Susie Anne and Tree Bressen on the proposed agenda thus far. If anyone else has suggestions in advance or questions about this meeting, please share them with Shannon to maximize the benefits of this session. Please know that I am seeking to connect with each person individually before the meeting as well. Thank you for your efforts to make this experience count for EcoReality and for yourselves. In peace and gratitude Shan 00:34, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Saturday, 30 May 2009, Process Session

Purpose: This session aims to build accord and understanding about what EcoReality is practising and what might be more effective for EcoReality to consider in two areas of governance: a) consensus agreement-making and b) stewardships. The purpose is of these sessions in a more general way: to practice 'Deep Listening by and for individuals in the group on a topic of group process. We will use heart-storming format and Dialogue tools to allow the wisdom of the group to emerge. This is the first in a series of these sessions, and feedback on the structure and facilitation of this session is requested afterward so that subsequent "process sessions" can be improved to fit needs of EcoReality, especially for process topics where timing may be critical.

Background: There exists differing views on processes in governance; existing "culture" of EcoReality may not be getting shared/understood or "owned" effectively by all current members and prospective members. As a starting point to practice exploring topics that are relevant and important for this group to discuss and come to clarity and consensus about, the "Group Process and Facilitation Team" has suggested that this session be focussed on two topics: a) Consensus and b) Stewardship. More background will be presented by the facilitator at the session.

Session format The session will begin with an 'opener' such as one found at [[1]]. The facilitator will describe the procedure, the purpose and background to the topics for the session. For these sessions, the facilitator will be encouraged to work with Dialogue and Appreciative Inquiry as methods for the exploration of topics that the group has deemed "charged" or in some way needing group awareness and clarification. Please see [[2]] for examples and ideas for behaviour of individuals that will create this type of session, from Patricia Galaczy's facilitated session in our 2009 Spring Retreat.

Proposed outcome: This is not a solutions meeting. This is a space to allow for the Process of being together and knowing more fully and deeply through the practice of facilitated reflective listening, suspension of judgments and open willingness to be changed by what each individual hears. An action may emerge at the end of the meeting, yet the focus is not on bringing solutions forward.
