  2. Check-in
  3. Agenda approved.
  4. Minutes of last meeting, 23 November 2013, reviewed and approved.
    • (Mindy and Rudy did not meet last week.)
  5. Old business:
    1. Matters arising from minutes: none noted.
    2. Project updates:
      1. Upcoming classes and events: nothing noted.
      2. Recruiting: nothing noted.
    3. Health and safety concerns and updates: none noted.
  6. New business:
    1. Reviewed 2013-11 harvest, 2013-11 sales, 2013-11 labour, and 2013-11 gross productivity.
      • Chickens are losing money. Estimated cost is about $2/egg! Not in molt. Hens are old. Farm steward will take appropriate action.
    2. Meter readings and billing for electricity use.
      • Cold month; yellow house went up about $40, white house up over $100.
      • Electricity for the heated area of greenhouse is running about $8/month.
    3. Review and prioritize current projects
      • Jan wants to start preparing to work on dining room ceiling.
      • Tabled due to time constraints.
    4. Review 2014 budget
      • Tabled due to nothing ready.
    5. 1st request for seed orders -- what do you want to grow next year?
      • Will discuss outside of meeting.
  7. Review arrivals/departures, guests and apprentices:
    • Mindy has chosen to leave at the end of the year, but will still cover for Jan being gone through December 30.
      • Will need milking support for evening of 30th, and at least morning milking on 31st, possibly evening, too.
        • Mindy will see if Landis can help. Jan will check with Colin & Sofya.
    • Mindy's adventure at the border on Nov 30 was uneventful. She was signed out, bought some smokes, and re-entered Canada.
    • Jan to Dayton to help Cleome paint her house. Needs to be on 7:50 ferry on Friday, 20th.
    • Amy whereabouts unknown. Mindy will check trailer for Amysickle. She may have gone back to Ontario.
    • Mindy to have solstice party on 21st.
    • Jan & Cleome to Michigan, Dec 24-31.
    • Ron gone through end of year? Heard on grapevine.
  8. Farm meeting:
    • Frozen greenhouse manifolds: Cleome will take a broken water manifold and try to match it somewhere. Jan thought he got them from Fred Meyer. Jan has also found them mail-order.
    • Pears are frozen solid. This is good: they will be sweeter and produce more juice when thawed. This is bad: they will rot quickly when thawed. Jan will see if Harry's cider press is available for a few weeks, so that it will be ready when we have a thaw.
    • Jan broke goat broom. Will look for a new old broom. (Hate to use a new broom on manure.)
    • Work party: move chickens.
    • Items to track (rough priority order):
      1. Prep for cider making.
      2. Make pear cider.
      3. Move chickens to winter quarters in front of house.
      4. Decide what to do with remaining tomatoes in greenhouse -- not enough to make a decent pot of sauce. Green tomato jelly?
      5. Get fuel for tractor.
      6. Get at least one chain saw working and continue harvesting wood.
      7. Clean up farm store area in prep for construction.
        • Empty freezer in farm store, feed to chickens.
      8. Clean up classroom and cloakroom.
      9. Replace water timer in west room of greenhouse.
      10. Jan contact Gavin about putting manure on fields he leases from us.
      11. Get cedar slabs and bark from Shane for projects and path mulch.
      12. Plant winter garden in greenhouse where the cukes were.
      13. Chipping -- Jan check mill for cedar bark for prop room floor. (Jan Steinman)
      14. Jan and others: re-arrange the greenhouse tables.
      15. Complete irrigation plumbing in greenhouse after locating and levelling tables. In process as tables are positioned and levelled.
      16. Fix sickle bar in prep for spring mowing.
      17. Need to move the glass canning jars out of the Yellow House parking lot before they get broken.
        • Find a place to put jars!
      18. Fix big rototiller -- won't run for more than a minutes or so; investigate fuel blockage -- back burner, winter project.
      19. Investigate using small greenhouse as a food dehydrator.
      20. Fix dining room ceiling.
        • Roll up Ron's rug and move it into the attic or somewhere.
        • Move dining room stuff into living room.
        • Plastic-wrap dining room in prep for ceiling demolition.
    • Tracked items recently completed:
      1. Harvest rose hips after first hard frost, in process. DONE!
  9. Confirmed next meeting: Next residents' meeting: Jan facilitator, Saturday, 14 December 2013, 09:00.
  • Meeting adjourned, 09:44
  • Respectfully submitted, Jan Steinman 21:28, 7 December 2013 (CET)
