  1. Meeting starts 10:58
  2. Check-in
  3. Agenda approved.
  4. Minutes of past meeting, 13 February 2013, reviewed and approved.
  5. Old business:
    1. Matters arising from minutes: talked about Steve B's and Chris R's visits; Cathy V holding on renting the classroom for now; Heather okay with washer/dryer at this time, but will keep Jan posted on any problems; report on Strategic and Business Planning workshop in Victoria.
    2. Project updates:
      1. Upcoming classes and events:
        1. Humanure workshop: in preparation. Minor panic last Sunday when newspaper got the date wrong and two people showed up.
      2. Recruiting (Jan)
        • We are getting legal advice as to Ron's taking and bringing junk without any consultation. Ron is off for Cuba.
        • Steve, Jodie, and family from Bainbridge Island visited and had a tour. They are examining documents for possible participation.
        • Jan continues to have weekly phone conversations with Robert about cottage plans.
    3. Health and safety concerns and updates: none noted
  6. New business
    1. Discussion on EcoNest cottage project.
      • Requests for estimates in with both lumber stores. Windsor working closely with Robert; Slegg wants to wait for final plans.
      • Jan had initial meeting with our Islands Trust planner. Contrary to previous advice, we cannot build a cottage for habitation without re-zoning, which may take a year or longer. But we can build an auxiliary farm building to residential construction standards, then have it qualify for residential use after rezoning. Since it is a lengthy process, we should put everything we'd want to do in 30 years into the re-zoning proposal. We need to consult with Capital Regional District building inspector before formally applying for a permit.
      • AGREED: Jan to proceed with planning and fund-seeking for EcoNest cottage project, but EcoReality cannot commit funds at this time.
    2. Update on farm steward recruiting:
      • Met with Chris R last Wednesday, very good candidate.
      • Discussed Carol's reticence to pay a high commission on net sales after expenses. She did not understand that the farm steward's meals and lodging would be part of expenses, and now agrees with a high commission rate.
  7. Review arrivals/departures, guests and apprentices:
    • None noted.
  8. Farm meeting:
    • Rudy and Jan will begin working on soil blocks next week.
    • Jan will mix up a tank of fertigation at this weekend's workshop, and possibly get other needed inputs.
    • Japanese Silverberry cuttings are rooting in a tray in the greenhouse.
    • Goji berries are recommended for green cuttings, so we will wait until they leaf out before propagating.
    • Rudy has not heard from the German volunteer; will look into it.
  9. Plans for the week:
    • Jan: prepare for humanure workshop.
    • Jan: work on 30-year development plan in preparation for rezoning proposal.
  10. Confirmed next meeting: Next residents' meeting: Jan facilitator, Wednesday, 27 February 2013, 11:00.
  • Meeting adjourned, 11:51.
  • Respectfully submitted, Jan Steinman 22:54, 20 February 2013 (CET)
