  4. Minutes of previous meeting, 2012-09-19, reviewed and approved.
  5. Old business:
  6. Health & safety: no changes.
  7. New business:
    1. Reminder: please get time sheets in as soon after the end of the month as possible!
    2. Farm Tour last minute preparations.
      • Ben: road/roadstand signage.
      • Carol: weeds in East Field.
      • Ben: clean up metal bits that Quesnel left.
      • Jan: tastefully arrange vehicles and implements to suggest a parking lot.
      • Jan: sandwich board at end of 2152 drive, directing visitors to 2172.
      • Ben: set up tent and expanded farm stand in front of community farm store.
      • Schedule:
        • 10AM: farm tour: Jan
        • Noon: jelly making: Carol & Julianne
        • 2PM: goat walk: Jan
    3. Well water safety issues?
      • Water testing was done recently; Carol will locate the paperwork.
      • Small coliform count detected; health authorities prefer it to be zero. Such is not necessarily unhealthy.
      • Algae growth: water testing does not test for algae, which is generally considered harmless.
      • Bottom line: if you are concerned, boil the water. Jan drinks tap water regularly with no ill effects.
    4. Review upcoming volunteers:
      1. Emma & Judi have re-scheduled for 5 - 14 October.
      2. Michelle & Roger K have changed their plans, and can't come before spring.
  8. Arrivals/Departures:
    • Ben unavailable Friday evening through Sunday evening.
      • Jan will close/open roadside stand and greenhouse.
    • Carol's moving postponed at least one week, possibly Friday, 5 October.
  9. Farm meeting
    1. Firewood on Friday work party.
      • Ask Gavin if he has any wood we can have.
    2. Need to pick two bartlett pear trees. They are scabby and unsuited to market. Jan suggests making perry out of them, and will contact Harry to see if/when his press is available.
    3. Prepare to have goats in the East Field.
      • Clear the packing shed and/or make it inaccessible. (Ben)
      • Move packing shed.
      • Relocate large gate.
        • Make materials list (Jan)
        • Install person gate where large gate is currently. Needs a post and brace.
      • Fence off Rudy's winter garden. (Rudy)
      • Harvest anything we want to keep. (Ben)
        • Quinoa heads to Carol, who will process. (Carol)
      • Find some "goat toys" via online lists or Rudy salvage.
      • Let's do it next Wednesday or Thursday!
    4. Markets:
      • Saturday - cancelled, due to farm tour.
      • Tuesday - Ben and Jan.
  10. Plans for next week:
    • All: prep for Farm Tour.
    • Jan: pull tank on Vanagon and clean.
    • Jan: siphon starter early next week.
    • Jan: assess Red Jetta for roadworthiness.
    • Rudy: seek goat toys for East Field (especially large spools).
    • Carol: make jelly.
