  1. Meeting starts 09:03
  2. Check-in
  3. Agenda approved, with addition of planning for ING meeting.
  4. Minutes of previous meeting, 2012-08-29, deferred until next meeting.
  5. Old business:
    • To do reviewed:
      • ACTION: [ ] Complete EcoReality road sign that Kaleigh Barton beautifully laid out. Ben on point, Jan supporting. (Ben Corno)
    • Calendar reviewed:
      • Jan away Thursday 07:30 through Saturday 11:45 or possibly 13:45, depending on customs.
      • Carol returning with Jan for an unknown short period.
      • Ben in Vancouver 19-21, returning afternoon of 21st.
    • Project updates:
      1. Farm stay hostel:
        • Jen doing well in White House. Scout and Emerik not seen much, but should be increasing their presence.
        • Hostel plans on hold, but research continues in prep for an opportunity.
        • Rudy still scouting for bunk beds, single mattresses, and construction materials for making bunk beds.
        • Need to make a Lions run as soon as it opens.
      2. Upcoming classes and events: no changes.
        • Still need to check with Carol about her classes.
      3. Necessary changes in involvement in EcoReality:
        • Couple from New Mexico visited briefly; interested in "investing in an EcoVillage" in Canada, but no details known. In contact via email.
        • Peter has no new leads on selling his house, but his son has sold his, and is now renting on Salt Spring.
        • Couple from North Carolina want to visit in October.
      4. Goat shed II:
        • Extension cord installed for milking in the dark -- thanks, Ben!
      5. Commercial propagation greenhouse:
        • Need to re-mulch propagation room. Move half the tables out, lay down cardboard, move them back in, repeat.
        • Moats for cardboard.
      6. Emergency power: no changes. Need to do before the first chance of a big snow, late November or sooner.
      7. Yellow house suite:
        • Rudy & Jan still scouting for appliances and construction materials.
        • Three-month schedule sketched out on dining room calendar.
      8. Water system maintenance:
        • Siphon starter now needed to flood the new swales, so they can be accurately leveled.
        • Gavin on hold until things get wet, because he can't dig the hard dry clay. But if we flood the roughed-in ponds, he can start earlier.
        • Explain this strategy to Gavin and get him to do the north swale and rough-in the east pond, so we can flood and level them.
        • Time to lift out the crushed cistern and fill in that hole.
  6. Health & safety:
    • With kids running around, become more aware of hazards. Call Quesnel to get scrap metal out of here. Fill in the cistern hole.
  7. New business:
    1. Meter readings and billing for outbuilding electricity use reviewed. Up about 10% for some reason.
    2. 2012-08 harvest, 2012-08 sales, and 2012-08 labour reviewed. (Not including Ben's numbers, which will be entered tomorrow on the Coho Ferry.) Dairy strong. Market garden doing well. Too much overhead! But prefer to solve "overhead problem" by increasing revenue, rather than decreasing the admin effort that is designed for tracking a much larger system.
    3. ING Meeting planning:
      • General clean-up, especially parking area.
      • Setup tables, chairs. Can use crappy workshop tables with tablecloths.
      • Coffee, tea. Set up hot-pots.
      • Outhouse cleanliness check. Sign directing gents to the blue barrel.
      • Prepare two dishes:
        1. Ben: salad
        2. Rudy: lentils & quinoa
        3. Jan may make something else, crisp?
        4. Farm tour: Start with goats, which Jan will organize, proceed to west garden, go through to east garden, then to greenhouse. No more than 15 minutes each.
      • New residents:
        • Stone masons will stay through the end of September for $120 per week each.
        • Mao Aoki will move into 2152-S October 1 through December 29, and will stay in the big downstairs room until then.
        • Begin marketing for 2152-N for October 1.
  8. Arrivals/Departures:
    • Jan/Bubba to Oregon very early on 6th through noon or so on 8th, with Carol.
  9. Farm meeting: not discussed.
    • Work party Friday: cancelled this week. If short-notice labour arrives, Ben will direct to blackberries, which will be dumped in the freezer until Jan comes back to process them.
    • Markets:
      • Saturday - Ben seriously wants to try doing this in the Jetta. Go Ben!
      • Tuesday - Ben and Jan.
  10. Plans for next week:
    • Ben: make farm pretty for ING meeting
    • Jan: Oregon trip
    • Jan: siphon starter early next week.
    • Rudy: look for bunk beds and construction materials
  11. Confirmed next meeting: Next residents' meeting: Wednesday, 12 September 2012, 09:00, Jan facilitating and Ben taking notes.
  • Meeting adjourned, 09:53.
  • Respectfully submitted, Jan Steinman 19:39, 5 September 2012 (CEST)
