  4. Minutes of previous meeting, 2012-07-11, approved, and matters arising discussed.
  5. Old business:
    • Matters arising from old minutes: discussed while reviewing minutes.
      • Produce shed lower priority with new fridge working -- immediate needs okay.
        • Jan still looking for freezers, may get one in Duncan if a trip can be organized.
    • To do reviewed, several items will be marked as completed and a couple will be marked off as no longer relevant.
    • Calendar reviewed.
    • Project updates:
      • Upcoming classes and events:
        • Ben's song writing workshop: purchased ad in Island Tides; will promote on EcoReality home page.
          • [x] Press release to Driftwood for Ben's songwriting workshop by Friday (Jan Steinman).
      • Necessary changes in involvement in EcoReality
        • Geo gave notice that she is vacating the White House by August 31. We will miss you, Geo! Thanks for all the work and good energy!
      • Goat shed II
        • Cistern deck moved per Carol's great suggestion.
        • Trailer moved into place.
        • Remaining: position and level deck, internal gate latches, key hole feeders and other minor bits.
      • Commercial propagation greenhouse:
        • Plumb prop room headers and finish two tables, then close the project!
        • Need to re-tape NW corner small tear.
        • Still need to raise floor of centre room this fall after harvest of one of the outer rooms is complete. Discussed using topsoil from pond construction for this, reserving subsoil for filling in the cistern pit.
        • Would like to close out this capital project soon, but the last expenses for irrigation may drag out a bit.
      • Emergency power: on hold until next fall; need to have in place by next winter.
      • Yellow house suite - no change until at least the 21st. Dave is interested and may fund remodelling.
      • Water system maintenance - Still need to haul out and repair old cistern and fill in the hole in the ground.
  6. Health & safety:
    • Please do not lay individual garden tools down where people can step on them or where they get lost in the grass. Return them clean to their proper place, or at least congregate them into piles so they can all be taken care of at once.
  7. New business:
    • Market record keeping: new proposed form with clearer "Begin/End/Units/Price" columns for in/out inventory. Same product with different prices (each vs bunch, large vs small, etc.) should have a separate line.
    • Site care schedule form put on counter for all to volunteer for meals, milking, and cleaning.
  8. Arrivals/Departures:
    • Shane left after a couple days.
    • Carol left indefinitely on Tuesday.
    • Welcome, Kelly! Arrived last Wednesday just after the meeting.
    • Meaghan and James leaving early Sunday.
    • Kelly will stay through next Wednesday's meeting.
    • Geo's relatives leaving today.
    • Geo away from Wednesday, 25 July through Friday, 17 August.
  9. Farm meeting:
    • Friday Work Party: whip cane berries into shape. Weeding, mowing between rows, sheet mulching paths, chip mulching the plants.
    • Other farm tasks:
      • Steam juice the cherries Wednesday evening.
      • Pick cane berries.
      • Possible jelly making Thursday.
      • [x] Fix handle on the hedge trimmer that keeps falling off. (Jan Steinman)
    • Markets:
      • Saturday - Ben will open, with Meaghan at 10am and Jan at 1pm, Jan & Meaghan will close.
      • Tuesday - wing it.
    • Upcoming volunteers:
      • Laura Oxley - August 13 - 29.
      • Rudy has a few people he will tentatively invite, subject to farm staff approval.
      • Send Tracy regrets.
      • Mother/daughter pair from Calgary: Jan will phone them.
  10. Plans for next week:
    • James: up for juicing berries Wed evening.
    • Meaghan: would like to make lavender/blackberry jelly.
    • Jan: complete goat shed II.
    • Jan: begin re-engineering goat fencing.
    • Jan: clean up tools and stuff around Carol's Jetta and button it up for towing.
    • Jan: Trim goat hooves.
    • Jan: Geo's washing machine.
    • Jan: Complete greenhouse tables and irrigation, close Project 126 expenditures and reconcile project.
    • Geo: ready to work some long days to get her hours in.
